Celebrating 25 years of Anglia Chiropractic
Twenty-five years ago, Andy opened Anglia Chiropractic with a simple aim: to help people recover from pain and improve their quality of life. Twenty five years later, that aim hasn’t changed. To mark the occasion, we sat down with Andy to hear how it all began, and where the clinic is headed next.
How it all began
Before Andy opened the clinic, his career looked quite different. After finishing education, he trained as a riding instructor and went on to work with Olympic event horses. During this work, he had his first encounter with chiropractic care, watching horses receive spinal treatment to help them move and perform at their best.
What stood out to him was that the horses had no expectations of how they should feel. They simply responded to the treatment. In some cases, their temperaments would noticeably shift once the discomfort was relieved. It was his first encounter of what chiropractic care could genuinely do, without any placebo effect in the way.
His own experience followed not long after. A fall from a horse left him with daily headaches, and a visit to his local chiropractor resolved them. Seeing how it had worked on others and how he had experienced it himself, Andy set himself on the path to training at the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic, where he completed a five year degree and graduated with both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Chiropractic.
The early days
Anglia Chiropractic was a family business from the start. Andy’s wife Jeanette left her career in accountancy to help get the clinic off the ground, and she continues to manage the accounts and work on reception twenty-five years on.
The business took off relatively quickly. It seemed many patients were looking for a place where they could be assured of a treatment plan in their best interest, and it didn’t take long for the clinic to find its feet.
As the clinic has evolved over the years, the approach has stayed the same – find out what’s actually going on, then build the treatment around the person in front of you.
What kept us going?
Andy puts a lot of it down to staying current. Chiropractic care has evolved and advanced over the last twenty five years, and keeping up with the latest pain science has always been a priority at the clinic. Understanding how and why the body responds to treatment the way that it does has shaped Andy’s approach to treatment, and continues to do so.
The other part of Anglia Chiropractic’s success is investment. Around ten years ago, the clinic introduced K-Laser therapy, a decision that came from Andy’s own experience recovering from a disc injury. After more than a year of persistent pain, K-Laser was part of what finally helped him get on top of it. This experience gave him a firsthand understanding of what it could offer patients, and the clinic now runs two machines as part of its day to day care.
What are we most proud of?
The team at Anglia Chiropractic has stayed remarkably consistent over the years, and so has the standard of care they deliver. Donna joined as clinic assistant in 2002 and has been a warm, familiar face at the front desk ever since. Raph came on board in 2012, bringing a second skilled chiropractor into the fold.
What really stands out for Andy is the patients who have stayed with the clinic for the long haul. Some have been coming through the door for twenty five years or more because they’ve seen the difference that regular, preventative care does for the quality of life.
For Andy, this kind of trust means a great deal. Every patient who walks through the door is treated as an individual, and it seems that people notice.
What comes next?
The next chapter for Anglia Chiropractic isn’t about doing something radically different. It’s about continuing to stay loyal to the clinic’s values – transparency, honesty and patient-centered care. Andy wants to make sure that anyone who comes to Anglia Chiropractic looking to improve or maintain their quality of life gets exactly that.
Thinking about coming in?
If you have been putting it off, our advice is simple. Come in with an open mind, be realistic about what treatment can achieve, and be prepared to work with the team. Chiropractic care works best when it’s a two way process, and that has always been the philosophy at Anglia Chiropractic.
Whether you’re dealing with pain or discomfort that has been bothering you for a while, or you simply want to understand what’s going on with your body, the team would be happy to help.
